In my never ending “drive” to find new and exciting experiences relating to commercial real estate, I’ve discovered Flying Tee Golf[i], a part virtual, augmented reality and part actual golf experience. In this video, I interview John Volbrecht, founder and CEO of Flying Tee Golf. We discuss what makes Flying Tee different from its, perhaps, better-known competitor.
LOOKING FOR THE EXPERIENCE
As internet sales have grown, brick & mortar retailers and their landlords have been focusing on experiential retail in order to differentiate buying at a brick & mortar store from buying online. A great deal of the focus has been on providing an experience that the buyer can’t get when shopping online. At Flying Tee, a part virtual golf, driving range and entertainment complex, it’s all about the experience of playing golf, at least in a way that differs from a, strictly, virtual way. It combines the physical, real feel of swinging high end golf clubs, hitting real golf balls and experiencing the game of golf. You can even get to play on virtual golf courses around the world that most of us will never have the opportunity to play on.
A VIRTUAL GOLF EXPERIENCE TO APPEAL TO EXPERT GOLFERS AND DUFFERS
Flying Tee shouldn’t only appeal to scratch golfers and duffers. For those who are less experienced, it offers games that you can play, including a kind of golf, Blackjack in which you aim at targets on the range that are represented as playing cards.
Of course, there are the obligatory food and drinks to make it a real party experience.
[i] Full Disclosures: I have not received any promotional consideration for this interview. I genuinely found it very interesting.
[ii] During the interview, John was very careful not to mention his competitors. While I could mention them, I think you probably know who they are and I am going to honor John’s wishes in this post.
